History of perfumes
Perfumes are not a very recent element of accessory that has been added to our daily styling. It dates to the Mesopotamian times when they used to burn incense around their homes. The legend also goes that the time when Cleopatra welcomed Marc Antony with perfumed sails after he returned from Julius Caeser’s assassination, had such a pleasing effect on him that shed ended up being the Queen of Egypt. This scented luxury might not have a long history about how it came into existence but the power it holds is beyond any other object that maybe used to please someone. The word ‘perfume’ has been derived from the Latin phrase, per and fumus, meaning thorough smoke. Later, the French refined the term to parfum which meant the good smoke from the burning incense. The perfumes in the ancient times did not resemble the ones we use today. They were used in the form of essential oils used in bathing water soaking people’s skin in the aroma.
